William headed out in the summer of 1886, accompanied by his seven  boys and two daughters, to fulfill a cherished dream. They began by  hand, stone by stone, constructing his distillery. After a year of hard  effort, William named it Glenfiddich, which means “Valley of the Deer”  in Gaelic.
William’s drive, determination, and pioneering spirit are still with  them today. Glenfiddich is one of the few remaining family-owned single  malt distilleries, and it is now the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt*  Scotch Whisky, a real representation of the founder’s inventive nature  carried down through the generations.
